My first felting project

I tried my hand at felting during the holiday break. I got 2 balls of NORO Kureyon yarns using the Lopi tote pattern I knitted a cute little bag that became a very nice xmas prezzie.




J'ai donc continué les expériences avec de la laine Harrisville et j'ai tricoté deux autres petites sacoches qui sont aussi devenues de jolis cadeaux.

Les foulards du tricothon de Chatelaine

The woman's magazine Chatelaine did a contest last fall.

J'ai tricoté trois foulards dont deux ont été des cadeaux personnalisés (couleurs et longueur) pour des amies au travail.

The first one knitted with Sabrina Four season 75% wool 25% acrylic. I liked the pattern. Très simple avec des côtes faciles à faire.







19 mailles (stitchs) aiguilles/needles 8 mm

Rang 1 / Row 1 : 1 m. end. (K1) *2 m. end (K2), 1 m. env.(P1), 1m. end. (K1)* Répéter * (Repeat *) et terminer par 2 m. end. (until the last two stitch, K2)

Rang 2 / Row 2: 1 . end. (K1), 1 m. env. (P1), *3 m. end (K3), 1 m. env (P1)* Répéter * (Repeat *) et terminer par 1 m. end. (until the last stitch K1)

Répéter les 2 rangs jusqu'à ce que le foulard soit la grandeur désirée. (Repeat two rows until the scarf is the desired lenght).

Rabattre les mailles. Cast off.

Le deuxième foulard a été tricoté avec de la laine trouvée dans un comptoir d'entraide pour quelques sous. Un éclatant orange. Not everyone can wear orange that bright but it happened to be the favorite color of my co-worker. Hence it became an obvious choice for my second entry into the contest.





The third scarf, slimmer and softer in light pink. De la laine trouvée encore dans un comptoir d'entraide. An old fashioned pink, even in acrylic form, was a charm to knit. Made it longuer because the co-worker this scarf went to is the "bohème" type working with lots of artists.

My winter scarf

Au début de l'automne j'ai tricoté mon foulard pour cet hiver. J'ai choisi le super moelleux et long foulard Rustic scarf de Last minute knitted gifts.

Knitted the full lenght of the scarf it makes for a wonderful "stripy" scarf. I didn't use Rowan Yorkshire chunky but Bernat's Solo yarn (less expensive and readily available in my area).







I just love this scarf. It's long and comfy and in very cold weather I can just roll it a few times around my neck and hide from the cold.

Aumonières

J'utilise mes restants de laine pour tricoter des aumonières de différentes tailles et couleurs.

Knitted with DPN's from 3.25 mm to 4 mm . I used bamboo needles. I love the lightness of these needles and the warmth unlike metal needles.




I use the basic pattern from the latest Magknits december 2005 issue (presently no available unfortunately)but I adapt the size and the number of stitch depending on the yarn I'm using.

Shibori knitting

Mon premier essai de la technique Shibori dont l'édition d'automne de Interweave Knits a fait mention.

A mild success. Too many marbles. Left too long in the washing machine and the marbles were not tied as tight as they should have been.

Phase 1.

Knitted a long scarf with 3 balls of Highland Chunky in Harvest Heather.

Put in the marbles. J'ai attaché les billes avec des bouts de laine pas des élastiques. Mistake number 1. Put in too many marbles. Mistake number 2.

Mistake number 3. I left the piece in the washing machine too long. Toujours faire un échantillon avant. Je n'avais jamais travaillé avec cette laine avant. Now I know.

Phase 2

3/4 of the marbles fell out during the felting process. But the marbles that stayed in produced the wanted effect.

Since the piece is not dry yet. I've put back the marbles tied with elastics this time and will let it dry with the marbles in.
